Gunther Steinmetz - Piesporter Treppchen GG 2024
The Weingut Günther Steinmetz is located in Brauneberg, in the heart of the German Moselle, one of the historic cradles of Riesling. This family estate, known for its artisanal and low-intervention approach, has established itself as one of the most precise and sought-after signatures in the region. The vines, often old and planted on steep slopes, root themselves in the famous blue and grey slate soils, true markers of the Moselle. The vineyard work is meticulous, yields are controlled, and the vinifications aim to preserve the purest expression of the terroir. Günther Steinmetz is now praised for his single-vineyard cuvées of great tension and remarkable aging potential.
The Piesporter Treppchen GG 2024 is a Grosses Gewächs (GG), a classification reserved for great dry crus from the best German terroirs. This cuvée comes from the famous vineyard of Piesporter Treppchen, renowned for its steep slopes with ideal exposure and slate soils that bring minerality and energy. Made exclusively from Riesling, the 2024 vintage offers precise ripeness and a structuring acidity typical of the Moselle. The vinification is conducted rigorously to preserve tension and aromatic purity, followed by careful aging that refines the texture without altering the wine's natural freshness. This GG embodies the noblest and driest expression of Piesport Riesling.
On the palate, the wine reveals an intense nose of ripe lemon, white peach, and delicate flowers, supported by a mineral framework of characteristic wet slate. The mouth is straight, vibrant, and chiselled, driven by precise acidity and elegant structure. The balance between concentration and tension gives the wine great depth and a long, saline, and persistent finish. This Piesporter Treppchen GG 2024 will ideally accompany noble fish, shellfish, or refined gourmet cuisine. It has an important aging potential, evolving towards more complex notes over the years.
